in Connecticut have long felt overshadowed by bands in New York and Massachusetts.
Now, a Stamford resident is making a move to push Connecticut bands into the spotlight.
Youth in Gun Sports
Connecticut sent fifty competitors to the National Rifle Association's National
Shooting Championships in July. What may be surprising about the group is that
twenty-six of them were juniors under the age of 20. Young shooters say they enjoy
the challenge of gun sports, and that they'll leave the politics to the adults.
Long
Island Feels the Impact of 9-11 The special impact that the World
Trade Center attacks had on Long Island is becoming more dramatic as the death
toll is finalized. Of the two-thousand-eight hundred now estimated to have died,
Three-hundred-sixty-six - about 13 percent -- were Long Islanders. Hofstra
University's Long Island Studies Department is archiving how Long Island was affected,
and how it responded to the attacks. | |

at the Quick Center for the Arts will reenact radio broadcasts from World War

Stories: Essays by Teen Mothers
(2001) I worked with artist and teacher Daphne Geismar to bring essays
written by her students to radio. This was a nine part series that aired during
local broadcasts of Morning Edition. | WSHU
Listener Love Stories (2002) For Valentine's
Day 2002, we recruited listeners to tell their love stories, and to discuss some
of the things we associate with love: music, food, jewelry. This was my first
experience producing a series on my own. And, the experience that allowed me to
learn HTML (from WSHU's skilled production and engineering staff). |
from WSHU's
Housing Series
(2002) When all of the stories for WSHU's Housing Series had been completed,
we realized that there were many, many parts of the discussion we had not been
able to explore. In this "vox pro," I spoke with professionals looking
at housing from various perspectives. The piece was produced to be used at various
lengths and in segments throughout the series. The entire piece is 4 minutes,
30 seconds. | |
